How To Boost Your Energy With Radishes

Radishes are a vegetable that we often neglect and forget what benefit it can give to our body. I know as a child I used to hide my radishes under the salad with the hope that my grandfather would not see. Little did I know the time and effort he had put into growing this marvelous vegetable and the truth behind the distinctive taste, natural crunch, and the flavours that adapt according to our individual taste buds. Our sense of taste relates to our second Chakra (Sacral), which is where we feel pleasure, need and sensation. The element associated with this chakra is water and is the second chakra where duality occurs receiving energy from the front of the body and back.

Radishes retain water, which is why this vegetable is perfect for anybody experiencing menstrual difficulties, lower back pain, loss of appetite of food, sex, life and disorders of the reproductive organs, urinary system, and spleen. When we understand what food relates to each chakra, healthy boundaries are created, graceful movement occurs in the body and we gain the ability to experience pleasure and change.

So why is it only now we are calling it the latest ‘Superfood’? Well, the secret behind the radish is the large group of diverse plants it comes from. Radishes are a member of the Brassicaceae family and a cruciferous vegetable, they are easy to grow, a cool-season vegetable, and belong to the species cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts, kale, cabbage and many green leafy vegetables. All of these vegetables provide you with all the natural vitamins the body needs to replenish, hydrate and rejuvenate cells.

Many people start their day with a green juice, or powder to give them a quick lift, however, if you start your day by preparing the following recipe not only will you receive a very high intake of vitamin C, K, A, D and E the radish will provide you with a high intake of folic acid which supports your red blood cells, they are low in calories, a wonderful source of fiber and have a high ratio of phytonutrients which can help the body with inflammation.

Morning Breakfast Menu

Ingredients

1 ripe avocado peeled and stoned

1 fresh organic radish peeled and sliced diagonally into slim pieces

Avocado oil or olive oil – Organic

½ Lemon

Sea salt

Few sprigs of parsley

Gluten-free wheat, barley or rye bread

Method

  1. Place the avocado in a bowl, add a drizzle of avocado oil/olive oil, pinch of salt, lemon juice. Carefully using a fork mash all of the ingredients together you can either make it smooth or chunky.
  2. Spread on warm toast, place the radish on top, and garnish with parsley. This will make 2-3 pieces of toast.

It is safe to say this wonderful vegetable hidden away in the depths of many older generations gardens, will help you maintain youthful fresh skin, nourish your tissues and support your digestive system. We are made of over 80% water, hydration is one of the positive factors a radish can support you with, especially if you live in a hot country or are going through the menopause, pregnancy or any other condition.
